It sure doesn’t look like part of The Powerpuff Girls on the first look.
I was a huge fan of the Powerpuff Girls when I was a kid, so I was really excited to create this custom artwork in celebration of their 20th Year Anniversary. While the girls are obviously iconic, I wanted to pick the motifs in the show I remember from watching the episodes so many times over, yet might not be obvious to those who only know the girls by sight.
One of them is Octi, which was the first thing that came to mind— Bubbles’ beloved plush toy, which became evil one episode when it was possessed by Him. The other item is the green blanket, draped in an abstract shape— this is Buttercup’s security blanket, which in one episode, was the one thing she couldn’t let go of. I remember this episode so clearly cause Buttercup was such a tomboy, but she had this cute moment where she became such a ‘baby’. The next item is the Telephone, which the mayor called the girls on when the town was in trouble. And last but not least, Blossom’s iconic red bow.
Eyeballs are a motif I use very often in my work, so I also made them in the colour of the Powerpuff Girls’ eyes. Another thing that makes the girls so memorable are their unique hairstyles, so I made sure to include that as well. To finish off this ‘monster’, I threw in three feet in Zōri (traditional Japanese slippers), another iconic trait of my monsters.
This monster was probably what Professor Utonium forgot to scoop out of the cauldron after the Powerpuff Girls were born. Heh.
